Iraqi Znoud Al-Sit
The Iraqi cuisine is renowned for its various and appetizing desserts, and one of these delicacies is “Znoud Al-Sit” It is considered one of the fundamental sweets in the Iraqi kitchen and has its origins in the province of Kirkuk. However, it is especially prepared in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
Iraqi tables feature “Znoud Al-Sit” on ordinary days as well as during all kinds of occasions and celebrations. Demand for this dessert is particularly high during the holy month of Ramadan and the winter season. The primary ingredients of “Znoud Al-Sit” consist of delicate layers of pastry dough, along with cream or mihallabiya, and syrup or sugar syrup, crushed walnuts or Aleppo pistachios are often added.
